helvetime is designed with a privacy-first approach. Your work time data stays on your devices and in your personal iCloud account—we don't operate servers that store your personal data.

Data Storage and Synchronization
Local Storage
Your data is primarily stored locally on your device using secure storage mechanisms provided by the operating system.
iCloud Synchronization
If you use an Apple device with iCloud enabled, helvetime uses Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage (NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore) to synchronize your data across your devices. This means:
- Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account
- Apple manages the security and encryption of iCloud data
- We do not have access to your iCloud account or the data stored within it
- Synchronization happens automatically through Apple's infrastructure
- You can disable iCloud sync through your device's iCloud settings

Data Backup and Export
You can export your data at any time through the App's Data Management settings. Exports include all your work entries, settings, and achievements in JSON format, giving you full control and portability of your data.
Third-Party Services
AI-Powered Insights (OpenAI)
helvetime offers optional AI-powered insights through "Luzi," our friendly mascot assistant. When you use AI features:
- Your work time data (check-in/out times, break durations, patterns) is sent to OpenAI's API for processing
- If you've enabled calendar sharing with Luzi, calendar event information may also be included
- Data is transmitted securely using encryption
- OpenAI processes this data to generate personalized insights and responses
- According to OpenAI's API data usage policies, data sent through the API is not used to train their models
You control AI features:
- AI insights are only generated when you explicitly request them (tap "Get AI Insight" or "Ask Luzi")
- Calendar sharing with Luzi is off by default and requires explicit opt-in
- You can use helvetime fully without ever using AI features

Subscription Management (RevenueCat)
We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases. RevenueCat processes:
- Purchase transactions and subscription status
- Anonymous app user identifiers
- Device identifiers for purchase restoration
- Transaction receipts from the App Store
RevenueCat does not have access to your work time data or personal information beyond what's necessary for subscription management. For more information, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Apple App Store
When you make purchases, Apple processes your payment information according to their privacy practices. We do not receive or store your payment card details. See Apple's Privacy Policy for details.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data.
We only share your information in the following limited circumstances:
- With Your Consent: When you explicitly choose to share data (e.g., exporting reports, sharing weekly recaps)
- Service Providers: With third-party services described above (OpenAI for AI features, RevenueCat for subscriptions), only as necessary to provide their specific functions
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order, or governmental authority
- Safety: To protect the rights, property, or safety of helvetime, our users, or others
Data Retention
- Local Data: Remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App
- iCloud Data: Synced data remains in your iCloud account according to Apple's retention policies and your iCloud storage management
- AI Processing: Work data sent to OpenAI for insight generation is processed transiently and not retained by OpenAI according to their API policies
- Subscription Data: RevenueCat retains transaction data as required for subscription management and legal compliance
Your Rights and Choices
Access and Export
You can access and export all your data at any time through Profile → Data Management → Export Data.
Deletion
You can delete your data through the App:
- Delete Work Entries: Remove all work history
- Reset Settings: Restore default settings
- Reset Achievements: Clear achievement progress
- Erase All Data: Complete data deletion from the App
To remove data from iCloud, you can either use the in-app deletion features (which sync the deletion) or manage your iCloud storage through your device's Settings.
Manage Permissions
You can control App permissions at any time through your device settings:
- Calendar Access: Enable or disable calendar integration
- Notifications: Control push notification permissions
AI Features
You can choose not to use AI features. The App functions fully without them.
Account Deletion
helvetime does not require an account. Your data is stored locally and in your personal iCloud. Uninstalling the App and clearing iCloud data effectively removes all your helvetime data.
Children's Privacy
helvetime is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can promptly delete it.
Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:
- Local data is stored using secure platform storage mechanisms
- All network communications use TLS/SSL encryption
- iCloud data is protected by Apple's security infrastructure
- We follow security best practices in App development
However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Data Transfers
If you use AI features, your work time data may be transferred to and processed in countries where OpenAI operates (primarily the United States). By using AI features, you consent to this transfer. OpenAI maintains appropriate safeguards for international data transfers.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by:
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Providing notice within the App for material changes
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
